Why should you bet on the Shockers?
I’ve said this before, but there is no reason why Wichita State should have been crammed into one of the First Four slots, while a team like Oregon State or Colorado has a higher seed in the field of 64. However, it is what it is, and the Shockers have shown the NCAA that they have a giant chip on their shoulder with the spanking they applied to Vanderbilt. Wichita State only permits 59.4 points per game, best in the nation. Opponents only shoot a paltry 38.4 percent from the floor. Remember that, last season, Wichita State beat Indiana and Kansas in the men’s tournament. This season, they force 15.4 turnovers per game, and Arizona (12.8) turns the ball over more than the average team. Their defensive tourniquet could easily choke off the Wildcats.
Why should you put your money on Arizona?
Arizona has one of the best offenses in the nation (#16 with 81.2 points per game). They have quality senior leadership in big man Kaleb Tarczewski and guard Gabe York. York has upped his game of late, averaging 21.7 points in the last four games, including a 32-point performance in the team’s win over Stanford. Senior transfer Ryan Anderson averages a double-double per game (15.5 points, 10.0 rebounds), and he will pose a major problem inside for the Shockers.
Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction
I like the Shockers to keep their momentum going and lock down the Arizona offense. The Wildcats have more talent than Vanderbilt, but Wichita State has the defense to stop Arizona. I’m picking a 64-61 Shocker win.
