The Eagles of American University (3-7) head north from the nation’s capital to take on the #1 Villanova Wildcats in non-conference action for both teams. American finished their home non-conference slate with a 61-58 win over Maryland-Eastern Shore. Villanova still sits undefeated and is preparing for a march through their conference schedule with this tune-up. Let’s take a look at this matchup, and before you go, check out all of our online sports betting picks and odds for this week.

Why should you bet on the Eagles?

Unless you’re looking at a line that is more than 15 or 20 points, this is a tough argument to make. Sa’eed Nelson had a nice game for the Eagles against Maryland-Eastern Shore, with 16 points and four steals, while Mark Gasperini added a dozen points, but Maryland-Eastern Shore is as far away from Villanova on the competitive spectrum as just about any college team in the Northeast, so the Eagles are about to face a huge storm in the suburbs of Philadelphia, unless Villanova does the uncharacteristic and lets their attention wander. Even then, a straight up victory would be difficult to imagine, but covering a huge line might be a different story.

Why should you put your money on the Wildcats?

This is Villanova’s first action in eight days, since their 78-57 tattooing of the Temple Owls, which completed a four-year sweep of the Big 5 rivalry, an informal collection of the Philadelphia-based basketball programs. Their 11-0 record still has them sitting atop the national rankings. Josh Hart continues to pace Villanova, averaging 20.1 points per game and shooting 56.6 percent from the floor, and dishing out 3.7 assists per game. The last player to stay above 20 points, 3 assists and shoot above 55 percent from the floor? Wake Forest’s Tim Duncan — so Hart is in fine company. One hopes that American University’s athletic department is getting a nice check from Villanova for accepting this hide-tanning — but if you can get a line under 12 or 15 points for this game, you can earn a nice payday for yourself.

Betting Pick and Final Score Prediction

I’m sure that American will come out scrappy on the big floor, but don’t expect Villanova to toy with them for long. I predict a final score of Villanova 89, American 60.
