Top NBA Weekend SU Picks
Friday: Dallas (+6) over Detroit
I know what you’re thinking here. Detroit has been winning some chippy games lately as they try to ensure themselves a playoff spot in the East. But the Mavericks have been playing some salty ball lately as well, despite that 22-point loss in Sacramento. J.J. Barea has been terrific starting at the point in place of Deron Williams, and the Mavericks have been winning lately even with Dirk unable to land the basketball in the ocean, let alone the basket. I like the Mavericks to cruise in Motor City and surprise a Pistons team that may be taking them for granted.
Friday: New York (PK) over Brooklyn
The Knicks have enjoyed seeing Derrick Williams in the lineup, starting for the injured Kristaps Porzingis (shoulder). Porzingis remains day-to-day, though, and if he can play tonight, he would give the Knicks that extra boost they need. The Knicks almost beat Dallas without Porzingis, thanks to Williams’ contributions (and Carmelo Anthony’s 31 points), and Brooklyn is not the team that Dallas is. I like the Knicks to win this one — maybe even with Porzingis still on the shelf.
Friday: Atlanta (PK) over Cleveland
Atlanta has won four of their last five and has risen past Miami to take the lead in the Southeast Division. Meanwhile, the Cavaliers lost to Houston at home (with LeBron taking another game off to rest for the postseason stretch run) and had Brooklyn at home before heading to Atlanta for the second night of this back-to-back. I don’t think that Cleveland has a clear collective head right now, and I like Atlanta to stay on their relatively hot streak.
Friday: Toronto (-5) over Memphis
No-brainer here. I’d take the points too, but if you can get the straight-up bet here without having to pay too much extra, I’d go for it. Toronto just won their 50th game of the season for the first time in franchise history, and while Memphis just got Zach Randolph back, they’re still looking for energy and focus, particularly on the defensive end of the floor.
Friday: Sacramento (+7.5) over Miami
This might be the rockiest of the bets in this article. Why? Because you’re relying on DeMarcus Cousins and Rajon Rondo to decide (on the same night) that they want to play hard and win a basketball game for George Karl, who’s been rubbing them the wrong way all season. When these two work hard together, the Kings are a threat to anyone who comes into their arena. Miami will be tired on the road during a long West Coast road trip, and they have fallen out of first place in the Southeast. They’re ripe for this sort of upset, and with that big of a line you could get a good deal on the SU wager.
