Top NBA Betting Match ups of the Week

Wednesday: Philadelphia at Detroit

Here’s my rule of thumb with the 76ers: if they’re playing on the road against anyone, I pick them to lose straight up. Against a team like Detroit, I would give as many as five or six points. The Sixers have some quality talent but not enough to string together wins, as they are still in their infinite rebuilding project.

Wednesday: Minnesota at Toronto

The Timberwolves: young, talented, very inconsistent. The Raptors: more experienced, just as talented, more consistent. With the Raptors at home, I would give as many as five or six points and still take the Canadian side. If the total is set at 205 or higher, I would consider taking the under, as the Raptors are good at locking down opposing offenses while the Timberwolves do not score consistently.

Thursday: Golden State at Orlando

Golden State on the road against a subpar East team? That’s a formula for a big win. I would give as many as eight (or even 10) points and still take the Warriors. If the total is 210 or lower, I would take the “over” too, because the Warriors like to score in bunches, so even in a rout, I could see something like a 125-102 result.

Thursday: Houston at Portland

No one wants to go to Portland right now, where the Trail Blazers destroyed the Warriors by 32 points last week. Houston doesn’t play well on defense, and so they are ripe for a torching from Portland. I would give as many as eight points and still take Portland, and I would take the “over” if the total were 212 or lower.

Thursday: Milwaukee at Boston

Boston has almost become the Golden State of the East, pouring in points in bunches like they’re playing a video game. The Bucks don’t have a solid defense, and they’re inconsistent on offense. I would give six or eight points and still take Boston in this one. As far as the over/under total, I don’t think I’d play this game because I don’t know if the Bucks will score 85 or 105 — I just am convinced that they will lose.

Friday: Washington at Philadelphia

Now the Sixers are at home, and the Wizards are struggling to stay at .500. If the line is more than six points, I would consider taking Philadelphia to keep it close. The Wizards are struggling with injury, and they might see the Sixers game as a chance to take things easy.

Saturday: Brooklyn at Utah

Let’s see. Cross-country trip to play at altitude for a team at sea level (Brooklyn). Not only that, but Utah’s defense is improving, while Brooklyn’s has absorbed some major problems. I would take the Jazz and give five or six points in this one, because I think Brooklyn is flying into town for a whipping.
