San Antonio vs Memphis Pro Hoops Odds

One of the interesting things about this NBA season is that the San Antonio Spurs won more regular season games than they ever have before — 67 — and no one is talking about them. Instead, all of the buzz is about the 73-win Golden State Warriors. Meanwhile, the Spurs are lurking in the playoff waters, which is just the way that coach Greg Popovich likes it. The Memphis Grizzlies were a strong team in the early going, but they hit a gigantic injury wave late in the season, which is why they just went 11-17 after the All-Star break and almost fell all the way out of the playoffs. The series opens on Sunday night in San Antonio, at 8:00pm Eastern time on TNT. Find out the latest NBA betting odds here.

San Antonio Spurs vs Memphis Grizzlies Pro Hoops Odds

Why should you bet on Memphis to win?

The Grizzlies did not win a single game against the Spurs this year in four attempts. However, they are one of just three teams ever to eliminate a 1-seed in the playoffs — and they did that in the 2011 postseason, when they knocked out these same Spurs as the 8-seed. The Spurs did not have Kawhi Leonard or LaMarcus Aldridge then, but it is still a possibility. Zach Randolph (15.2 ppg, 7.8 rpg) has returned from injury and has played well in the last week of the season, and he could be the spark in a Grizzlies attack that could end up surprising the mighty Spurs.

Why should you put your money on the Spurs to win?

It’s not just Tony Parker, Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili anymore. Somehow, those players are still getting out there on the floor and competing at an elite level every night, but it’s also the newer contributors (Kawhi Leonard — 21.2 ppg and 6.8 rpg and LaMarcus Aldridge — 18.0 ppg and 8.5 rpg) who are pushing the Spurs toward a deep playoff run. Even their bench is tough to deal with, as the Dallas Mavericks found out in the regular season finale. They took on a Spurs team with basically no starters dressing and still found themselves on the short of a 95-91 loss, in a game that they led by 18 points at one point. This is a deep team that believes in Pop’s message, and his system has worked time and time again.

Expert Pick and Final Series Prediction

The Grizzlies have a ton of heart, but they just don’t have the talent to make this a series against a squad this difficult. I’m predicting San Antonio to win in four.
