San Antonio at Memphis NBA Playoffs Spread Game 4

The Memphis Grizzlies radically shifted the tone of their Western Conference quarterfinal series against the San Antonio Spurs in Game 3. The first two games had not been close, but when Memphis coach David Fizdale went on a rant about the officiating that would cost him $30,000, the Grizzlies came out with more intensity in Game 3 and took it right to the Spurs, and now the series stands 2-1 in San Antonio’s favor. Will the NBA spread favor the Grizzlies in Game 4?

Where: FedExForum, Memphis
TV: ESPN / FSSW
Radio: San Antonio / Memphis
Stream Option: NBA.tv
NBA Odds: Spurs at -3½

Why should you bet on the Spurs?

San Antonio played right with the Grizzlies for the first half, but after the intermission the Grizzlies poured it on, outscoring San Antonio 31-17 in that period. It started with two Spur turnovers at the start of the third quarters. Kawhi Leonard had scored a combined 69 points in the first two games but only put up 18 in the loss. The rise in intensity from Memphis was expected, and a San Antonio team that was up 2-0 in the series showed a couple of lapses — also expected. However, I don’t expect that gap in intensity to be present in Game 4.

Why should you put your money on the Grizzlies?

Memphis looked like their grinding, physical selves from start to finish for the first time in this series. Mike Conley led the way with 24 points and eight assists, and Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol each chipped in 21. Memphis used a lineup that chipped away at the Spurs’ second-half lead in Game 2 to start in Game 3 — and Memphis only turned the ball over twice in the first three periods. That same intensity and ball security will serve the Grizzlies well, and if they can push like they did in Game 3, they could head back to San Antonio with an even series.

Betting Pick and Final Score Prediction

I like the physical style that Memphis brings to the court, but I see San Antonio making the necessary adjustments and taking control of this series on Saturday. I predict a final score of San Antonio 104, Memphis 96.
