NBA Playoff Preview: Toronto at Miami, Game 3

Written by on May 6, 2016

On Saturday evening, the Toronto Raptors will be at South Beach to take on the Miami Heat in Game 3 of their Eastern Conference semifinal. Both of the first two games in the series went to overtime, with Miami taking Game 1 and the Raptors prevailing in game 2, thanks to the hard work of Jonas Valanciunas on the boards. Valanciunas scored 11 points and pulled down seven boards in the fourth period and the extra frame to help seal the win. Find the updated NBA lines here.

Why should you bet on Toronto?

The Raptors’ issues may have more to do with confidence than anything else, because when they play their game, they are one of the hardest teams in the NBA to beat. DeMarre Carroll came through with 21 points, so on a night when the Raptors just shot 42 percent, their defense and rebounding came through late. DeMar DeRozan scored 20 and Kyle Lowry had 18, as the Raptors showed just enough to level the series. If they can play with that balance in Miami, they should win.

Why should you put your money on the Heat?

Even when Hassan Whiteside is overshadowed by the other team’s center, he still pulls in big numbers (13 points, 13 boards). Dwyane Wade and Joe Johnson each posted 17, and Goran Dragic poured in 20, showing how balanced the scoring was. With about six minutes to go in the fourth period, the Heat were up by seven, but they just couldn’t get Valanciunas off the offensive boards in the last quarter or overtime, and they paid the price. If they recommit to defensive rebounding they should win Game 3.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

The momentum of being at home and a resurgence on the boards by Whiteside and Luol Deng will propel Miami to a 104-98 win.
