NBA Playoff Preview: Toronto at Cleveland, Game 5

Posted by Aaron . on May 25, 2016 in

On Wednesday night, the Toronto Raptors will head back down south of the border to meet the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference finals. The Cavaliers were up in this series 2-0 before the games shifted to Toronto, and given that the Cavs had delivered two routs, it looked like this might be a short series, just like the first two rounds had been for Cleveland. However, the Raptors delivered a 99-84 thumping in Game 3 and followed it up with a 105-99 win in Game 4, so things go back to Cleveland level. Find the latest NBA odds here.

Why should you bet on Toronto?

The Raptors always feature solid defense, but if Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozan are not on, the team suffers as a result. On Monday, though, Kyle Lowry posted 35 points, including a huge layup in the last minute, while DeRozan put up 32 of his own. Bismack Biyombo followed up his 26-rebound performance in Game 3 with 14 more in Game 4, and DeMarre Carroll chipped in 11 points. Toronto is now 8-2 at home in this playoffs, but even though Game 5 is on the road, the team should have immense confidence after handling LeBron & Co. in back to back games. They need that similar attitude on the road, though.

Why should you put your money on the Cavaliers?

In Game 4, Cavaliers coach Tyronn Lue admitted that he made a mistake by leaving LeBron James in for th game’s first 14 minutes. That disrupted the team’s rotation and kept the second group, which had been unstoppable, without Channing Frye, and the team looked disjointed. Even though the Cavaliers made their first 11 shots in the fourth period, they had fallen into such a hole that the Raptors were able to hold them off. If the Cavaliers could not escape. I don’t see them opening a game so poorly at home.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

Returning to Cleveland will be the catalyst that the Cavaliers need. I like them to reassert themselves and take a 3-2 series lead by a score of 106-102.
