NBA Playoff Preview: Portland at Golden State, Game 5

Posted by Aaron . on May 10, 2016 in

Once again, the Portland Trail Blazers had the defending champion Golden State Warriors on the ropes. Even though Portland was up three in the last minute, Harrison Barnes nailed a three with 51 seconds left to knot the game at 111 and send the game to overtime. There, Steph Curry scored 17 points all by himself, as part of the Warriors’ 21 in the extra frame, and the Warriors escaped Portland with a 132-125 victory. Game 5 is Wednesday night in Oakland, and the Warriors have a 3-1 lead and a chance to close out a series that they could easily be losing by the same margin. Find the latest NBA online betting spread here.

Why should you bet on Portland?

In three of the four games in this series, Portland has led for the vast majority of the game. Damian Lillard is finding open shots and scoring in buckets (36 points and 10 assists in Game 4). Their idea of spreading the floor on the fast break is pushing the Warriors and, if the Trail Blazers lose, will show the Warriors’ next opponent how to make Golden State look awkward. If they can finish a game in Oakland, this series will be back in Portland this weekend.

Why should you put your money on the Warriors?

Sprained knee ligament? No problem. Steph Curry still torched the Blazers for 40 points (including those 17 in overtime). And when he wasn’t scoring, it was Harrison Barnes and Klay Thompson carrying a lot of the burden. Down the stretch, Portland couldn’t get any stops — but you can’t blame them, because who has stopped the Warriors down the stretch this season? In front of that home crowd, there’s no stopping Curry and his team’s momentum.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

I like the Warriors, with a healed Curry back on the floor, to close out the Blazers. I’m predicting a 130-124 Golden State win.
