Why should you bet on the Pelicans?
Anthony Davis is one of a handful of players in this league who can take over a game all by himself. He showed that when he dropped 59 points and grabbed 20 board, basically leading New Orleans to a win in Detroit all alone. The Pelicans learned that John Wall of the Wizards can do the same thing, though, as he posted a triple-double for Washington when New Orleans lost the other night. In the case of the Thunder, I don’t think the Pelicans have what it takes to counteract Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook, but they do have what it takes to make this a close contest, so a line of more than 10 might push me toward New Orleans, particularly if the Thunder’s game in Dallas goes into overtime or takes a lot of emotional energy out of them.
Why should you put your money on Oklahoma City?
The Pelicans are a talented group, but they don’t have a lot of solid pieces around Anthony Davis yet. So they have one max contract player surrounded by a bunch of worker bees. As they add more pieces, New Orleans will become a contender in the West, thanks to Davis’ talent. For now, though, the offense that Durant and Westbrook put up on the board are just too much for the Pelicans to deal with.
Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction
I like Oklahoma City to win this game, but I don’t see a rout. I’m picking the Thunder, 108-99.
