Why should you bet on the Grizzlies?

Memphis ran into the buzzsaw known as Russell Westbrook when they lost in Oklahoma City on Wednesday night. Despite going 6 for 19 overall and 0 for 7 from downtown, Westbrook still posted 24 points, 13 rebounds and a dozen assists. The Grizzlies got 22 points from Mike Conley and 14 points apiece from Chandler Parsons and Zach Randolph, and they turned a 55-44 deficit at the half to just a one-point gap in the third quarter, but Oklahoma City pulled away. A positive sign for Memphis was that they only had three turnovers in the first half and just 10 for the game. Center Marc Gasol had an off night, going just 4 for 12 for 9 points, but the team still hung close with one of the league’s most powerful offenses.

Why should you put your money on the Rockets?

If the Grizzlies struggled stopping Russell Westbrook, then stopping James Harden will be even more difficult. It took a full effort from the Minnesota Timberwolves to knock off Houston at home, as Andrew Wiggins poured in 28 points, Shabazz Muhammad added 20, and Karl-Anthony Towns had a monster night, putting up 3 points and grabbing 18 boards. Ricky Rubio added 10 points — and tied the franchise record with 17 assists. Wiggins had 15 points in the first quarter himself. Ryan Anderson still drilled a three in the third quarter to take a brief lead for Houston, but Minnesota was still too strong. The Grizzlies may not have the legs to put together that sort of effort two nights after falling in Oklahoma City.

Betting Pick and Final Score Prediction

I like the grit that the Memphis Grizzlies bring night in and night out, but I think the Rockets have too many weapons — and too much motivation after seeing a nine-game winning streak end in Minnesota. I predict a final score of Houston 110, Memphis 101.
