How to Bet the LA Lakers vs Los Angeles Clippers Game

The floor at the Staples Center will be red and blue on Friday night when the Los Angeles Clippers play a “home” game against their fellow tenants, the Los Angeles Lakers. The game tips off at 10:30pm Eastern time. Let’s take a look at the ins and outs of this angelical NBA betting matchup. This used to be a rivalry that the Lakers owned, but over the past few seasons, the Clippers have been the contender in the West, while the Lakers have found themselves in the unfamiliar position of the lottery.

Why should you bet on the Lakers?

Even though the Lakers only have nine wins, they have played well in many of their losses. For example, their Tuesday night loss to the Mavericks required a last-minute shot by Dirk Nowitzki, as the Lakers played close all night. So this is not a doormat team in the mold of the Sixers by any means. Byron Scott is coaching this team to becoming a competitive group, top to bottom, and they are ready to start making some of the teams above them in the standings pay.

The Clippers will also be without Blake Griffin, who broke his hand in an altercation with a team staffer when the team was in Toronto. So while the team has played fairly well in Griffin’s absence, his presence inside and his mid-range shooting are weapons that the Clippers will miss.

Why should you put your money on the Clippers?

Even with the adversity of losing Griffin, the Clips still keep finding ways to win. Their last win — an 85-83 road battle in Atlanta — might have been their best win of the season. This was their 14th win in 17 tries, coming at the end of a road trip in which they beat the Pacers the night before. They got the Hawks to turn the ball over 23 times, turning those miscues into 17 points. Griffin has missed the team’s last 16 games (he was already out with a tear in his quad tendon when he broke his hand), but the team has gone 13-3 in those games. He is likely to be out at least another month. In his absence, DeAndre Jordan pulled down 19 boards and added 13 points. He showed some needed improvement from the free throw line, sinking 6 of 8 during the fourth period.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

I like the Clippers to keep on their winning course. While the Lakers have earned some kudos with their youth movement (Jordan Clarkson and D’Angelo Russell will both appear in the Rising Stars game), they also have some real progress to make on the defensive end of the game. The Clippers are too solid on the offensive side for the Lakers to keep them under control. Even with the Clippers coming home from an East Coast swing, they’ll have enough in the tank to win. I am picking the Clips, 108-94.
