Why should you bet on the Jazz?

Portland has been destroying teams lately — including a 32-point shellacking of the otherworldly Golden State Warriors. However, when the Utah Jazz came to town on Sunday, the Blazers barely held onto a four-point win. With their overtime win over the Mavericks before the break, the Jazz have been putting together a roll that could propel them up into the lower half of the playoff bracket in the West. The fact that they get the Rockets at home gives them the advantage of playing at altitude against a Rockets team that tries to turn every game into a track meet, trying to score as many points as they can so that they don’t have to get back and play defense.

Why should you put your money on Houston?

Before the All-Star break, the Rockets dropped three in a row and went below the .500 line. Their coach, J.B. Bickerstaff, described them as a “broken team” in an interview during the break. All that seemed to go away on Friday, though, when James Harden put up 27 points, grabbed ten boards and dished out seven assists in leading the Rockets to a big road win. It is worth pointing out, though, that the Suns are not a defensively intimidating team. The Jazz are a much tougher opponent, and the Rockets will need to be able to get some stops. If they can use that momentum from the Friday win and pull together as a team, though, they can put themselves back into the West playoff conversation.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

I like the Jazz to hold serve in their own gym and send the Rockets back down under .500. I’m predicting a 104-96 Jazz win.
