This Friday night, the Dallas Mavericks take on the Orlando Magic down in the shadows of Walt Disney World. The Mavericks (29-26) are in third place in the Southwest Division and are coming off a home loss to Utah (121-119) before the All-Star break. The Magic (23-29) are in fifth place in the Southeast Division and are coming off a disappointing home loss (98-96) to the San Antonio Spurs, a game in which the Magic held a 14-point lead in the fourth quarter. Find out more about the latest NBA online spread soon.

Why should you pick the Mavericks?

The Mavericks have been a true enigma for most of the season. They won in Memphis, a place where they have struggled, before coming home to lose in overtime to Utah, a team they had beaten 10 straight times at home. They started the season hot, but then they stopped playing defense somewhere around Thanksgiving, and they have been exposed since. However, with the talent on their roster (Dirk, Chandler Parsons, Wesley Matthews and the like) they can impose their offensive will on a young Magic team that is struggling mightily to get stops of any kind. The Mavericks are one of the older, creakier teams in the league, but they have the weapons to knock off the Magic, especially after a long All-Star rest.

Why should you put your money on the Magic?

The Magic were able to dominate the Spurs for most of their game before the break. Before that, they completed an impressive home-and-home sweep of the Atlanta Hawks to stop a three-game slide. This is a young team, but they are learning the ins and outs of their ball movement offense and keeping opponents on their heels for long stretches of games. They should have put the break to use for working on the defensive end of the floor, so they can shut down the opposition when they need to hold a lead or get out of a deficit.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

Both of these teams are battling inconsistency, but the Mavericks have played at a higher level all season long, even when they were in their defensive malaise. I’m picking the Mavericks to win this one, 104-96.
