The Cleveland Cavaliers (37-16) head to the Twin Cities to take on the Minnesota Timberwolves (21-34). Cleveland has won five of six, knocking off Denver at home on Saturday night. The Timberwolves have lost five of seven, but they did deal a 117-89 rout to the Chicago Bulls on Sunday night. Once you’ve finished reading our prediction for this game, look at all of our NBA lines for this week’s games.

Why should you bet on the Cavaliers?

Cleveland dominated another team that is middling in the West at home on Saturday, routing the Denver Nuggets, 125-109. Kyrie Irving and LeBron James each put up 27 points, and Derrick Williams has emerged as perhaps a solid guard option off the bench for the Cavaliers. He is currently on a 10-day contract with the Cavaliers, his sixth NBA team, and if he is going to stick around permanently, he will need to keep putting forth effort like he did against the Nuggets. A big 18-0 run in the third quarter salted away the game for the Cavaliers, as Irving, James and Kevin Love dropped five three-pointers on the Nuggets within 2:43, as part of an 18- 0 run at the start of the third period. If they can score so easily against Minnesota, they should pick up another easy win.

Why should you put your money on the Timberwolves?

Despite the fact that Minnesota dwells well below the .500 mark, this is a team that can pile on at home — and the Cavaliers have already lost 11 road games. Against Chicago, Andrew Wiggins poured in 27 points and Karl-Anthony Towns chipped in 22. Ricky Rubio put up 17 points, dished out 11 assists and grabbed six boards as the Timberwolves shot 54 percent for the game. Minnesota hounded a shorthanded Chicago team into 18 turnovers and won the rebound battle, 46-35. If they can muster similar energy against Cleveland and get out to an early lead, the youth movement could bring home another upset win.

Betting Pick and Final Score Prediction

I like what the Timberwolves do at home, but Cleveland will be much better prepared than a shorthanded Bulls team was. I predict a final score of Cleveland 108, Minnesota 96.
