Cleveland at Golden State NBA Finals Betting Odds Game 2

Posted by Peter Boysen on June 2, 2017 in

The Golden State Warriors picked up their 13th win in this postseason — against zero losses — with a 113-91 shellacking of the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 1 of the 2017 NBA Finals. Kevin Durant put up 38 points for the Warriors, and Stephen Curry chipped in 28. While LeBron James also scored 28 points for Cleveland, his eight turnovers were a testament to the swarming Golden State defense. Game 2 is set for Sunday night — can King James and his court respond? Or will the Cavaliers go home in a deep 2-0 hole? Let’s take a look at the NBA odds for Game 2.

Cleveland at Golden State NBA Finals Betting Odds Game 2

When: Sunday, June 4, 2017, 8:00pm ET
Where: Oracle Arena, Oakland
TV: ABC
Radio: Cleveland / Golden State
Live Stream: WatchESPN
NBA Odds: Golden State at -8½

Why should you bet on the Cavaliers?

Golden State missed 15 shots from inside the restricted area in the first half. So while Durant’s night was huge, the night could have been a lot worse. The Warriors were also able to contain LeBron James with just one defender — Kevin Durant — which meant that the chaos that the Cavaliers had been able to cause when they required a double-team on the King did not ensue. The Cleveland attack depends on James drawing help as he gets to the rim. However, it’s unlikely that Cleveland will shoot 34.9 percent from the floor again in Game 2 — and they had a 17.1% turnover rate, a number not likely to appear again on Sunday.

Why should you put your money on the Warriors?

You get the sense that last year’s Finals would not have been close if the Warriors had had Kevin Durant. He became the fourth player in NBA history to put up at least 25 points in each of his first six games in the NBA Finals. He kept heading to the rim, slicing through a Cavaliers defense that was suspect for the entire regular season and once again showed its flaws, as he had six dunks in the first half alone. However, it was the balance that the Warriors showed on the night — Durant also had six assists in the game — that is the scariest factor for Cleveland fans, unless the fact that the Warriors finally showed some interest in playing defense turned this game into a rout turns out to be even more intimidating.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

Game 2 will be much closer than the 22-point laugher that Game 1 became, but Golden State still picks up the win at home. I’m not sure that the Cavaliers will be able to make enough adjustments to a formula that got them through the first three rounds of the postseason to pick up a win before they head home. I predict a 114-107 Golden State victory.
