The Charlotte Hornets (33-40) continue their pursuit of a playoff spot when they head north of the border to take on the Toronto Raptors (45-29) on Wednesday night. Charlotte has won four of their last five, including a 120-106 win over Phoenix at home on Sunday, and they host Milwaukee on Tuesday night before heading to Toronto on Wednesday. Toronto rides in on a six-game winning streak, including a 131-112 shellacking of Orlando at home on Monday. Why should you bet on the Hornets?

The Hornets are firing on all cylinders with their offense right now. Against Phoenix, Kemba Walker went off for 31 points and nine assists. Marvin Williams put up 21 points, and Nic Batum chipped in 18 points and 10 assists. Charlotte jumped out to a 30-7 lead early, going 10 for 13, including three makes from downtown by Williams, and went into the locker room with a 69-47 advantage. Cody Zeller picked up four steals, and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist shut down Devin Booker (the same one who put up 70 on Boston last week) for the game’s first ten minutes. Can the Hornets mount a similar effort against one of the East’s top contenders?

Why should you put your money on the Raptors?

While DeMar DeRozan continued his hot streak with 36 points against the Magic on Monday, the real story was the Raptors’ offensive balance. Jonas Valanciunas put up 17 points and nine boards, and Cory Joseph posted 15 points and 13 assists. Serge Ibaka had 16 points and seven rebounds. The Raptors shot 59 percent from the floor and 67 percent from downtown. That meant that they did not really have to play their signature ironclad defense, after their 38-point second quarter pushed them out to a 14-point halftime lead. The Hornets are near the Magic in the standings, and while the Hornets are playing somewhat better ball, they don’t have the talent to hang with Toronto yet.

Betting Pick and Final Score Prediction

Charlotte is making a big playoff push, but Toronto still has their eyes set on the top of the standings in the East. I predict a final score of Toronto 114, Charlotte 106.
