The Milwaukee Bucks head to Detroit to face the Pistons in the first game after the All-Star break, before the break the Bucks had lost a close one to the Indiana Pacers after winning five-straight games. Let’s see how the NBA betting odds will be for the Bucks vs Pistons.

Bucks vs Pistons 2020 NBA Betting Lines & Game Preview

The Detroit Pistons went into the All-Star break on a four-game losing streak and would pull off the upset of the year if they were able to beat the Bucks on Thursday.

Although the Pistons upsetting the Bucks is unlikely, they could cover considering they come in as 12.5-point underdogs. Before we make a decision though, let’s evaluate what both teams will bring to Thursday’s game.

Not much to cheer for in Detroit

Aside from the addition of Derrick Rose there isn’t a lot to cheer about in Detroit, they have a record of 19-38, clearly out of playoff contention but hopefully there’s light at the end of the tunnel. Unfortunately for them, coming right out of the All-Star break they have to face the No.1 team in the Eastern Conference, the Milwaukee Bucks.

Slowing down Giannis Antetokounmpo is going to be priority number one in Thursday nights game, he’s the driving force behind the Bucks offense and defense and if Detroit can slow him down, they might be able to cover the spread. I wouldn’t put too much faith in that happening though, considering the last time these squads faced in December, the Pistons were +9 and still unable to cover. Detroit was the home team in that game as well but still couldn’t stop Giannis putting up 35-points in a 127-103 Bucks victory.

The relative good news for the Pistons is the Bucks could potentially be without Kyle Korver and George Hill, both are on Day-to-Day status with respective injuries which will limit the Bucks depth.

As bad as the Pistons have been straight-up, they’ve also been bad against the spread. With an overall record of 21-34-2 and an ATS Home record of 11-19, Detroit isn’t giving bettors a lot of confidence heading into Thursday’s game.

Milwaukee bucking towards the playoffs at full speed

It’s hard to imagine another team from the East being able to compete in a seven-game series against the Milwaukee Bucks. Giannis Antetokounmpo has his eyes set on the NBA Finals and a strong push after the All-Star break is exactly what they need to build momentum for the playoffs.

The Bucks will get lobbed a soft-ball on Thursday when they head to Detroit to face the Pistons, a team that stands no real chance of beating them. This match is perfect for the Bucks to get a winning streak started after coming off a close loss to the Indiana Pacers. What I like most about Milwaukee is their ability to win on the road. Their 21-5 record on the road almost matches their 25-3 record at home, showing that the Bucks can win just about anywhere.

Injuries haven’t been much of an issue for the Bucks this season but they could be down a few bench players on Thursday night, with Kyle Korver and George Hill both being listed as questionable. I wouldn’t worry too much if those two are ruled out as it shouldn’t put much of a dent in the leagues No.1 offense.

The Bucks against the spread don’t have the best record in the league but they are above .500 and have gone 5-1 ATS in their last six games, not to mention their 8-0 record ATS against Detroit in their last eight meetings.

Bucks vs Pistons Pick and Prediction: Milwaukee Bucks -12.5

Usually on spreads this large I lean towards the underdog especially when the underdog is playing at home. However, Detroit’s home record against the spread almost matches their road ATS record leaving very little confidence for them to cover the spread. Considering the Pistons are a team that lost 87-76 to the Charlotte Hornets at home, I just can’t trust them to even come close to covering against the Bucks.

Milwaukee is already in playoff mode and will want to get off to a fast start coming out of All Star weekend, with their first game being against a weak Pistons team, look for Giannis to have another over thirty-point game.  We take the road favorites in this one, Milwaukee Bucks -12.5.
