Boston at Atlanta NBA Prediction & Betting Pick

Posted by Aaron . on April 5, 2017 in

The Boston Celtics (50-27) will be in the Old South to take on the Atlanta Hawks (39-38) on Thursday night. Boston has won two in a row and six of seven, including a 110-94 win in New York on Sunday. They face the Cleveland Cavaliers at home on Wednesday before heading to Atlanta for Thursday’s tilt. The Hawks’ tailspin continues; they had interrupted a seven-game slide with a pair of win (over lowly Phoenix and Philadelphia) but have since taken two straight road losses, most recently falling in Brooklyn, 91-82, on Sunday. Here’s a closer look at the NBA betting preview for this match up.

Why should you bet on the Celtics?

A lot of this will depend on what happens Wednesday night in Boston, as Cleveland comes to town. If the Celtics blow the doors off the Cavs, they might be ready to fall into a trap game — or they might come out with momentum. If the Cavs win, then you might see an angry Boston team ready to unleash all sorts of pain on the Hawks. You’ll also want to check any injury news coming out of that game before locking in your bet. Against New York, Isaiah Thomas put up 19 points in just 24 minutes, and Marcus Smart and Al Horford put up 14 points apiece. The Celtics shot 55.6 percent from the floor to keep New York on their heels for the whole night. Similar offensive energy should push the Celtics past Atlanta.

Why should you put your money on the Hawks?

Despite the fact that Dennis Schroder had 16 points, Paul Millsap (returning from injury) had 14 points and Tim Hardaway Jr. added 14, the Hawks still lacked the offense to get past a Brooklyn team that has only won 18 games. If you like Atlanta against Boston, then you expect the Celtics to see this game as an easy one and overlook the Hawks — and you think that Atlanta can put up points in ways that they haven’t been able to in a couple of weeks. If the line is more than 10 or 12, I might consider the Hawks in this game, but that’s about the only way.

Betting Pick and Final Score Prediction

I like the steel that Boston brings to their defense, and I also like the balance that the Celtics have on offense. I predict a final score of Boston 109, Atlanta 99.
