Boston at Atlanta NBA Odds Analysis

On Saturday night, the Boston Celtics will be in Atlanta to open their Eastern Conference quarterfinal round against the Hawks. The Celtics took the #5 seed in the East, while Atlanta fell to the #4 seed on the last day of the regular season when Miami slid by them to take the Southeast Division crown — and the #3 seed. The Hawks won three of the four meetings between the two teams in the regular season. Find the latest NBA online betting spread here.

Why should you bet on Atlanta?

The Hawks finished with back-to-back losses, which could drain their confidence a bit, but in the three wins Atlanta had over Boston this season, they won by 14.3 points per game and averaged 116 points in each win. Paul Millsap punished the Celtics in their last regular season meeting, dropping 31 points and grabbing 16 boards. Millsap leads the team in points (17.1), boards (9.0) and steals (1.8) Jeff Teague and Al Horford could also give the Celtics some trouble on the defensive end, as they both score 15 points per game. The Hawks are #6 in the NBA for the regular season in points permitted per game (99.2).

Why should you put your money on the Celtics?

Boston’s fortunes begin and end with their All-Star, Isaiah Thomas. He led the team in scoring (22.2 ppg) but also grabbed 3.0 boards and dished out 6.2 assists per game. If his shots aren’t falling, though, the Celtics really don’t have a second option when it comes to a clutch scorer. Even so, the Celtics will be looking to Jae Crowder and Avery Bradley to complement Thomas’ game, as they combine to average 29.4 points per game. Crowder has a gimpy right ankle but is continuing to play on it; he has been limited to 12.7 ppg and 37.6% shooting over the last seven games. The Hawks have held him to 8.3 ppg over his career, though, so he needs to pick things up to help the team contend against Atlanta.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

I’m predicting that Boston will cruise into Atlanta and shock the Hawks with their third straight loss. I’m picking a 99-97 Boston win.
