NBA Betting: Potential 2021 Playoffs Matches Update

Posted by Derrick Harper on May 11, 2021 in

This year has been quite a whirlwind for the NBA. With last season’s NBA Finals ending in October and the 2021 season starting in December, there wasn’t much of a layoff. Combine that with the fact that from late December until mid-May, each team will have played 72 regular season games. The grind finally comes to an end this week, as the regular season ends on May 16th. With the play-in games starting soon thereafter, the playoffs will then start on May 22nd.

Between now and May 16th, there still could be a lot of position changes within the standings. We’ll see an exciting last week of action. Let’s take a look at some possible playoff scenarios so you can go ahead and plan your bets against their NBA Playoffs odds.

Updated Possible 2021 NBA Playoff Matchups

Eastern Conference

The Philadelphia 76ers have a three-game lead over the Brooklyn Nets with four games left to play. The Sixers are on a roll, winning eight in a row. Right now, it looks like they would play either the Celtics, Hornets, Pacers, or Wizards in the first round. The Nets hold a half-game lead over the Milwaukee Bucks for the #2 spot. Whoever gets the second seed will play a combination of the four teams that could play the Nets, as they’re only separated by 1 ½ games.

The Nets or the Bucks will land in the #3 position. They will play either the Knicks, Hawks, or Heat. The Hawks and Heat are tied for the 5th spot, while the Knicks hold a one-game lead over both of them. With one week left to play, pretty much every spot is up for grabs in the East, and there could be numerous position changes throughout the week. It’s anyone’s guess where everyone will land after the games on Sunday.

Western Conference

Right now, the Utah Jazz holds the top spot in the West. They currently hold a two-game lead over the Phoenix Suns. The Jazz has been on a roll as of late, winning their last five games, and seven of their last 10. They could play any one of the Mavericks, Trail Blazers, Lakers, Warriors, or Spurs in the first round.

The play-in games could have any number of teams. The Mavericks, Blazers, and Lakers are currently the 5-7 seeds. They are separated by just two games, so there could be some maneuvering amongst those teams. The Warriors, Grizzlies, and Spurs are in the 7-10 positions. They are separated by just 2 ½ games. The Warriors currently hold a half-game lead over the Grizzlies for the #8 spot.

The one matchup that everyone would love to see in the first round would be the battle of Los Angeles, as the #3 Clippers could potentially face the #6 Lakers. Another first rounder worthy of attention would be if the Clippers fell to the fourth position, as they currently hold only a one-game lead over the Nuggets, that would then have the Nuggets possibly facing the Lakers. With only a week left and many teams having four games this week, there are a world of possibilities for the first round matchups.
