Atlanta at Boston NBA Odds Analysis

On Thursday night, the seesawing series between the Boston Celtics and the Atlanta Hawks heads back north to the TD Garden after the Hawks delivered a thunderous 110-83 haymaker to the title hopes of the Boston Celtics, taking a 3-2 lead in the series. This was a game that was all about hot shooting for Atlanta, as Boston had held them to 19 points midway through the second period, but by the end of the third period they had scored 89. At that point, Boston was up 29-19, but at halftime, the Hawks led 47-39, and after three, they were up 89-62. Find the latest NBA odds here.

Why should you bet on Atlanta?

The Hawks are a streaky team, but when they are hot they are up there with the Houstons and the Golden States as far as scoring at video game speed goes. Their run on Tuesday started with three consecutive threes from Kent Bazemore, and the team just fed off one another and kept pouring everything in against a Celtics team that had been playing solid defense — but you can’t defend hot shooting, and the Hawks simply had way too much. If they can shoot like this in Boston, there won’t be a Game 7.

Why should you put your money on the Celtics?

The Celtics prospered when Isaiah Thomas was a key player — but also when he had balanced help around him. The Hawks decided to key on Thomas, letting the other Celtics beat them if they could, and it worked, as Thomas just went 3 for 12 and ended up spraining his left ankle in the fourth quarter, leaving early with just seven points on the board. The Hawks double-teamed him and trapped him, and the rest of the Celtics could not make the offense work — which would have moved the pressure back off him and let him shine once again. The Celtics were able to do this in Games 3 and 4, and if they can again in Game 6, they should win.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

I like the Celtics to rebuild that same fire from Games 3 and 4 and for Thomas’ teammates to step up. I’m predicting a 109-101 Boston win.
