Main Event Breakdown

Curtis Blaydes (14-2-0)

Blaydes steps into this one as the current second best heavyweight fighter and is also on a four fight winning streak. This momentum is with his most recent fight with a unanimous decision win over Alexander Volkov.

Blaydes’ fighting record reveals 10 wins by knockout and four by decision. As much of a power striker as he is, he has only two first round knockout finishes in his career.

He has a moderate striking accuracy at 53 percent and has been able to have a grappling accuracy at 55 percent. He has a very solid significant strike ratio, as he delivers 3.55 significant strikes a minute and only takes on 1.73.

On defense, he does not shine very well in some areas. His takedown defense for instance is at 33 percent but he has a significant strike defense at 57 percent. As for how many takedowns he is successful at, he averages an aggressive 6.98 per 15 minutes of fight time.

Derrick Lewis (24-7-0)

The fourth ranked heavyweight Lewis heads into this fight with a strong three fight winning streak. He was able to take care of Aleksei Oleinik fairly easily back in August, resulting in a knockout victory for him early in the second round.

He has composed a great fighting record so far, with  19 wins by knockout, one by submission, and four by decision. Out of those victories, he has been able to successfully throw in eight first round finishes.

On offense, he strikes with an accuracy at 50 percent but for his grappling accuracy, it is fairly poor at 26 percent. He has a solid ratio when it comes to his significant strikes, landing 2.64 significant strikes a minute and taking on nearly 2.09.

On defense, he has some that are close to average for the division. Lewis has a modest takedown defense at 52 percent but has a slightly lower significant strike defense at 44 percent. As for his takedowns, he averages close to 0.54 takedowns in his 15 minutes of fight time.

Winner of Main Event

This fight has all the makings for a fight of the night award. These two definitely understand the power of their knockouts and power strikes.

This will come down to who will knock the other one out first. Blaydes is interesting since he is very aggressive for how many takedowns he lands each fight. Overall, he looks very appealing in his chances to knock out Lewis at least by the second round.

Blaydes wins by Knockout at -370
