UFC 243 Odds, Preview & Expert Predictions

In a MMA-filled weekend, the UFC will take it’s event down under, as UFC 243 will be held on Sunday in Marvel Stadium in Melbourne, Australia. The last time the UFC traveled to Australia, we saw one of the biggest upsets in MMA history, as Holly Holm knocked Ronda Rousey out in 2015. The Australians will be looking for something even more exciting at UFC 243.

The main event of the evening will feature two southern hemisphere fighters. Australia’s own Robert Whittaker, the UFC middleweight champion, will take on Nigerian-born, New Zealand resident Israel Adesanya. This fight should be very competitive, as both fighters are very evenly matched. Let’s take a look at the MMA Odds while making some predictions.

UFC 243 Odds, Preview & Expert Predictions

Defending Title

Whittaker will be defending his title against the young, up and coming superstar. “The Reaper” has battled injuries recently, as he has only made three appearances in the octagon since April 2017. Even though he hasn’t fought a lot recently, he has won nine straight fights. Whittaker is known as a powerful striker, who will have the experience advantage. Whittaker isn’t known for his grappling abilities, but he may hold an advantage if the fight gets taken to the ground.

Adesanya has made his way up the ranks quickly. He is an expert kickboxer, but his defensive skills are what many deem as his huge weakness. The interim champion has earned his spot near the top of the division with impressive wins over Anderson Silva and Kelvin Gastelum. The “Last Stylebender” has made a huge rise in just 20 months in the UFC.

This fight will be exciting to watch. Whittaker will have the striking advantage, while Adesanya will use his vast kickboxing skills to tried to land big blows on Whittaker. Adesanya will need to have honed his defensive skills if he wants to survive the fight. He has taken a few good blows during his short UFC tenure, as he seems to be more concerned about the offensive end of the fight. If Whittaker can withstand Adesanya’s offensive arsenal, he stands a good chance to be victorious.

Hooker/laQuinta should be Great

In a lightweight bout, Dan Hooker, with a record of 18-8, will take on Al Iaquinta, who has a 14-5-1 overall record. Iaquinta is known as a wrestle-boxer. He can take you to the ground, or he can wear you out with jabs that lead to a fatigued fighter on the other side. Iaquinta lost his last fight to Cowboy Cerrone, so he’ll be looking to get back on track with a victory.

Hooker will have the reach and power advantage in this fight. He will look to use those advantages to knock Iaquinta out. Hooker has been on a roll as of late, and will look to continue on his hot streak. If he fights to his ability, he will have the advantage over Iaquinta. Marvel Stadium will be ready for Sunday.

With Australia’s own Robert Whittaker fighting fan favorite Israel Adesanya, who is from New Zealand, the crowd will be hot. It should be a great night of fighting in the land down under.
