UFC 240 Odds, Preview & Expert Picks

They say that the third time’s a charm. Well, in this case, that’s the truth. After two scheduled fights fell through due to injury, Max “Blessed” Holloway will finally meet Frankie Edgar this Saturday night at UFC 240. The Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada will host the UFC card that also includes the prime women’s bout pitting Cris Cyborg against Felicia Spencer.

The 20-4 Holloway, the UFC featherweight champion, will finally get to meet Frankie Edgar, who enters the fight with a record of 23-6-1. They were originally supposed to fight at UFC 218, but Edgar had to pull out. Holloway defeated Jose Aldo, who took Edgar’s place that night. They were then scheduled to fight at UFC 222, but Holloway had to pull out. Edgar lost to Brian Ortega by first-round knockout that night, thus making Ortega as the top contender to Holloway’s UFC featherweight title. Now that they’ll finally meet, it should be an explosive fight.

With Holloway coming off of a loss (a loss to Dustin Poirier in a lightweight title bout), and Edgar wanting to win the title, both will come into this fight hungry. Both of these fighters are well known for their striking ability. Edgar’s versatility could give Holloway trouble, as he can take it to the mat as well. Let’s take a look at the latest UFC Odds while making some predictions.

UFC 240 Odds, Preview & Expert Picks

Edgar/Holloway

Edgar hasn’t faced a striker the caliber of Holloway. The 37-year-old Edgar has proven that he can go the distance, but can he go take the strikes that Holloway will unleash for a full fight? Holloway will be looking to prove that he is the best featherweight ever, and will look to put an end to Edgar and retain his featherweight title. In the co-main event of the evening, a women’s featherweight bout, Cris Cyborg (20-2) will enter the octagon against the undefeated Felicia Spencer (7-0).

Cyborg hasn’t fought since her loss to Amanda Nunes at UFC 232. Prior to that fight, Cyborg won 20 straight fights in a 13-year span. This fight will only be Spencer’s second in the UFC promotion. Prior to her UFC start, she went 6-0 fighting for Invicta FC. In her first UFC bout, Spencer defeated Megan Anderson via first-round submission.  The two fighters have contrasting styles, as Cyborg wants to brawl, while Anderson will look for the opportunity to take her opponent down for submission.

Spencer wants to get on the back of her opponents to use her chokehold. If she can get the opportunity to use her submission maneuvers, Cyborg could be in trouble. Spencer will have to outlast a barrage of strikes from Cyborg, as she will look to pummel Spencer with strikes. Spencer will have her work cut out for her.

Welterweight Battle

In a welterweight battle, Geoff Neal (11-2) will take on Niko Price (13-2). Both fighters come into this bought riding waves of momentum. Neal has won his last five fights, while Price has gone 3-1 in his last four. All three of Price’s victories in that stretch have come via stoppage. Neal is a knockout artist, so Price will need to avoid the huge strikes if he wants to come out of the fight victorious. The UFC never seems to disappoint. This card has some big names and will have some very competitive fights. Canada will enjoy UFC 240!
