A Heavyweight main event will see, Paratrooper, Sergei Kharitonov 29-6, 2 NC look to impose his will against, The Swarm, Linton Vassell 18-8, 1 NC.

Let’s take a look at the latest Bellator Odds while making some predictions.

Bellator 234 Odds, Preview & Expert Predictions

Kharitonov Unbeaten

Kharitonov has not lost a fight dating back to the end of March 2017, though two no contests did crop up during that eight fight span. He is 11-1 in his past 14 fights dating back to September 2011. Nevertheless nearly 59% of his wins, 17 of 29, come by form of knockout, and with career wins over Alistair Overeem and Andrei Arlovski, Paratrooper is absolutely nothing worth scoffing over.

He has every ability to end a fight before it it over with crippling knockout power. Kharitonov’s five-fight Bellator unbeaten streak at heavyweight is tied for the third longest active streak in the division. Kharitonov is also responsible for one of the fastest KO’s in Bellator history as he put down Matt Mitrione in a mere 15 seconds.

A former No. 1 contender at Light Heavyweight in Bellator, The Swarm, decided to try his fortunes in a new weight class and instead wound up underneath Valentin Moldavsky losing that decision unanimously. At 6’4” with an 82” reach he’s got a natural Heavyweight’s size, but he still needs to prove it in this main event. And what better place than against Kharitnov. “I’ve gone back and looked.

You know I got tired in that fight.” said Vassell after his last fight. “I was still trying to fight like a Light Heavyweight but obviously weighed more”. You are then posed with the question after that of if Vassell has made any changes to either his routine or his conditioning.

Changes

If he has been unable to significantly change then he will be in for a similar outcome in this matchup. The motivation to win certainly helps with that mental preparation and expect for Vassel to take the steps necessary to pose a much more formidable threat than he did his last time.

Vassell’s three submission victories in Bellator light-heavyweight competition are tied with four other fighters for most in divisional history. Vassell excels in the grappling department and has earned nine victories by submission. He is actually going to have a reach advantage of eight inches, though, which should help in keeping Kharitonov at bay. He needs to keep his distance in this one if he hopes to pull the upset.

Big Fight with Big Guys in Bellator 234

Sergei Kharitonov is a hulking sized man with amazing potential to stop a fight at any slight mistake. Linton Vassell will have to try and muck this fight up on the ground and in the clinch if he hopes to pull the upset. The submission should be in his back pocket for this one. Kharitonov poses too much of a threat in this one to expect Vassell to win.

The Russian paratrooper has stopped his last six fights due to knockout blow. There is little reason to expect a different result in this one. This bout might not even make it out of the first round if Vassell is not able to keep space.

If you don’t find yourself staying up to watch live, then Paramount network is airing it the following friday night. Enjoy the show Kharitnov will put on.
