Bellator is back! On Saturday night, the Webster  Bank Arena in Bridgeport, Connecticut will host Bellator 225. The main event of the evening will be a heavyweight rematch, as Matt Mitrione takes on Sergei Kharitonov. The first fight took place at Bellator 215. Unfortunately, the fight only lasted 15 seconds, as Mitrione inadvertently landed a kick to Kharitonov’s groin area. Kharitonov was unable to continue, thus the fight was ruled a no contest.

Second Shot at Bellator 225

Fast forward to Saturday, and these two will get a second chance. Mitrione, a former NFL player, fought in the UFC for seven years, before switching to the Bellator promotion in 2017. Since entering Bellator, he is 4-1, with his only loss coming to Ryan Bader in the Bellator Heavyweight Grand Prix. His overall record is 13-6-0-1 with 11 knockouts.

The 38-year-old Kharitonov, brings a 28-6-0-2 record into Saturday night’s main event. He has fought for many different promotions throughout his long career. Some of his more notable victories have come over Andrei Arlovski, Alistair Overeem, and Fabricio Werdum. Of his 28 wins, 16 have come via knockout, while 10 have come via submission.

If Kharitonov can take the fight to the mat, he has a very good chance of defeating Mitrione. Although Kharitonov is not an overly skilled grappler, this could be his best chance. This fight will probably turn into a brawl, as both fighters love to slug it out. Mitrione is the better puncher, so we’ll see how it all pans out on Saturday.

Big Time Fight at Bellator 225

The co-main event is another heavyweight battle, as Vitaly Minakov takes on Javy Ayala.Minakov enters the fight with a record of 20-1. His last fight was his only career loss at the hands of Cheick Kongo. The former Bellator champ will look to get back to his winning ways against Ayala. Speaking of Ayala, he is coming off of a big victory over veteran MMA fighter Frank Mir.

He will need to keep up with Minakov, as he will look to evade big strikes from Ayala. If Ayala can connect with some big blows, he has the ability to beat Minakov.

Great Women’s Fight at Bellator 225

In a women’s flyweight bout, Alejandra Lara will take on Taylor Turner. Lara has lost her last two fights, so she will be looking to get back into the win column.

Lara is 7-3 overall, but is only 1-2 in her time with Bellator. Turner, who is 4-5 overall, won her first and only fight in Bellator thus far. At Bellator 222, she knocked out Heather Hardy. This should be an exciting battle between two tough ladies. In a battle of undefeated heavyweights, Tyrell Fortune will battle Rudy Schaffroth.

Both of these fighters enter the bout with identical 6-0 records. They have known each other for years, as both have wrestled in many of the same tournaments over the years. Schaffroth is the more aggressive fighter, which could hurt him if Fortune could catch him in a vulnerable position. This should be a very tough heavyweight battle between two fighters who are very familiar with one another.
