MLB: Yankees v Braves Series Betting Preview

Posted by Derrick Harper on August 24, 2020 in

Two pre-season favorites to meet in the World Series will collide in Atlanta this week, as the New York Yankees will invade Truist Park to take on the Atlanta Braves. Both teams have been struck by some bad luck, as injuries have taken a toll on both teams. Let’s preview their matchup in Game 2 of this important inter league series so you can make your bets against their MLB odds.

MLB Betting: Yankees v Braves Series Preview

The Yankees have been hit hard by the injury bug. Giancarlo Stanton, Aaron Judge, DJ LeMahieu, and now Gleyber Torres are out with injuries. That means that arguably the top 4 bats in the New York Yankees lineup will miss this series, and are more than likely to miss even more games after. Without these huge bats in the lineup, the Yankees have had to replace the 2-5 spots in their lineup.

Without those big bats in the lineup, the Yankees are now led by Luke Voit. Voit has had a great start to the 2020 season, as he’s hitting .311 with 10 home runs and 20 RBIs. Gio Urshela has also picked up some of the slack, as his 18 RBIs are second on the team. One player that could help things but is really struggling is Gary Sanchez. Sanchez has had an atrocious start to the season. Hitting just .132 with 5 home runs, Sanchez has struck out 33 times. New York is hoping that Sanchez gets on a hot streak soon.

As for the Atlanta Braves, they have also been hit hard by injuries. Superstar outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr., Nick Markakis, Ozzie Albies, and top starter Mike Soroka are all on the injuries list, with Soroka out for the season. Losing Acuna Jr. and Albies have been the hardest losses for the Braves.

Tuesday’s starters will be a clash between winless pitchers, as Masahiro Tanaka is scheduled to take the mound for the Yankees, and will be opposed by Atlanta’s probable starter, Touki Touissant. Tanaka enters the matchup with an 0-1 record with a 4.60 ERA. Tampa Bay had it’s way with Tanaka in his last start, as he gave up 6 runs on 8 hits over 4 innings in a loss to the Rays. Tanaka has yet to find his footing this season.

Atlanta’s starter Touki Touissant has had his struggles as well. Touissant comes into Tuesday’s matchup with an 0-1 record with a 7.97 ERA. His last time out didn’t go as planned, as he was roughed up by the Washington Nationals. He gave up 4 runs in 3 innings pitched, including 2 home runs. Touissant will be looking to get back on track.

The Yankees have fallen out of first place in the American League East. With this year’s expanded playoffs, they still should be a playoff team, but you face a tougher draw when you don’t win your division. With all of their injuries, the Yankees will be looking to hold on until their superstars get healthy.

Atlanta is battling injuries as well, but is benefitting from a division that is struggling. The Braves still hold a 2 game lead over the surprising Florida Marlins. The Braves could dip into their pool of minor league prospects to help the big club, or make trades.

Although this could still be a potential World Series matchup, this isn’t the matchup we wanted to see. We’re hoping that both of these teams are healthy for a postseason run.
