On Saturday afternoon, the Washington Nationals and the Chicago Cubs will play the third game of their weekend matchup of division leaders. The Cubs (21-6) sit atop the National League Central, and the Nationals (19-9) are in first place in the National League East. The Cubs won the opener of the four-game set, 5-2. Find out more about the latest MLB betting lines here.

Washington Nationals vs Chicago Cubs MLB Betting Guide

When: Saturday, May 7, 2016, 4:05pm Eastern timeWhere: Wrigley Field, ChicagoTV: MASN, CSChRadio: 670 AM The Score ChicagoLive Stream: MLB.tvMLB Odds: TBAPitching Matchup: Gio Gonzalez (2-1, 1.15 ERA) (WAS) vs Jason Hammel (4-0, 1.24 ERA) (CHC)

Why should you bet on Washington?

The Nationals send Gio Gonzalez to the hill, and he has been well worth the team’s investment in him. In his last start, he struggled in the first inning, needing 28 pitches, but he ended up with six scoreless innings, leaving his ERA at a microscopic 1.15. Dexter Fowler (.429, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 14 AB) is the only Cub with a lot of success against Gonzalez. The Nationals struggled against Kyle Hendricks on Thursday, but they have the bats to break through against Gonzalez if he leaves his fastball out over the plate.

Why should you put your money on the Cubs?

It’s almost a no-brainer to bet on the Cubs when Jason Hammel takes the mound. Daniel Murphy has gone 5 for 10 against him in his career, and Wilson Ramos has homered twice off him, but Bryce Harper is just 2 for 7 (although one of those hits was a home run). Hammel’s 1.24 ERA shows an increased focus on his craft this year, and he has owned the Nats historically (9-0, 3.01 ERA career vs Washington). As well as the Cub offense has been clicking lately, there’s no reason to think that Hammel won’t roll in this one.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

I like Hammel to outduel Gonzalez in this matchup. I’m predicting a 6-2 Chicago victory.
