Washington at NY Mets MLB Pick & Betting Preview

Posted by Aaron . on April 20, 2017 in

The Washington Nationals (9-5) visit the New York Mets (8-7) in a weekend series at Citi Field. These two National League East rivals are jockeying for the early season lead in the division. Washington currently has a three-game winning streak going, including a 14-4 rout of Atlanta on Wednesday. They finish that series in Atlanta on Thursday night before heading to Gotham to face the Mets. New York stopped a four-game slide with a 5-4 win over the Phillies on Wednesday at home. They conclude that series on Thursday night before welcoming Washington. So, let’s see who’s the predicted MLB betting favorite for the matchup.

Washington at NY Mets MLB Pick & Betting Preview

Where: Citi Field, New York City
TV: MLB Network, MASN, SNY
Stream: MLB.tv
Radio: Washington / New York
MLB Odds: TBA
Pitching Matchup: TBA (WAS) vs Jacob deGrom (0-0, 1.89 ERA) (NY)

Why should you bet on the Nationals?

The fact that Washington is likely to need a spot starter on Friday is not a positive sign, but the rate at which the Nats have started to rake is definitely a good indication. Bryce Harper walloped a pair of home runs and had five RBI in Washington’s rout of the Braves on Wednesday. Ryan Zimmerman had a grand slam as well, as the Nats put up 20 hits on the Braves. I would expect the law of averages to cool Washington off a little on Thursday, but those Washington bats will challenge deGrom on Friday night.

Why should you put your money on the Mets?

The Mets have gotten stellar pitching from Jacob deGrom this year — but they have yet to preserve a win for him. He has fanned 22 men in three starts, including 13 in his last start, when the bullpen gave away the lead that he had preserved for the team. However, they should draw some momentum from their win over the Phillies on Wednesday, in which Jay Bruce went 3 for 4 with a pair of home runs, driving in all five runs. The Met roster is built to mash — they had led MLB in home runs through early this week — so as they emerge from that drought, they should build momentum going into the weekend.

Betting Pick and Final Score Prediction

I see deGrom helping the Mets to an early lead against whatever spot starter the Nationals roll out there, and deGrom is certainly due a win the way he’s been pitching. I predict a 4-2 Met win.
