Top MLB Betting Picks of the Week – August 6th Edition

Posted by Derrick Harper on August 6, 2018 in

With the MLB season well underway, the true contenders and pretenders are identifying themselves. The buyers and sellers of the trade deadline have come and went and we now know a lot more about what to expect from a variety of teams. As major league baseball as a whole is somewhat unpredictable game to game, we, as betters, have to rely on historical data based on the wholes of the season, so as the season goes on, we obtain more data. The more data obtained, the easier it is to make informed decisions on what pitching matchups are beneficial, what teams do well at home or on the road, what stadiums suit specific teams better. For these reasons, here are my top MLB Betting picks for this upcoming week.

Top MLB Betting Picks of the Week – August 6th Edition

Cleveland Indians over Minnesota Twins – Monday

I like the Indians, particularly Monday versus the Twins. Despite the Twins being 4-0 in their last four series openers, Trevor Bauer takes the mound and has tremendous stuff posting a 4-0 record in his last four games against AL Central competition. The line stands at -220 but I’ll still take the Indians for the win.

Another game I like, also on Monday is a bit of an upset. Picking against the spread this time (+142)

St. Louis Cardinals over Miami Marlins – Monday

I like the Marlins hosting the Cardinals. Luke Weaver has been inconsistent if anything and Chen going to the mound for the fish, posting a home ERA of 2.11 could be the golden ticket to slow the bats of the Redbirds.

Washington Nationals over Atlanta Braves – Tuesday

A week of picks couldn’t be complete without a bet on an ace and who better to put your chips on than Max Scherzer. Scherzer pitches Tuesday for the Nationals against the Braves. The Nationals are 3-1 so far in the month of August and 7-4 since hosting all-star weekend. The Braves are doing similarly well, posting an 8-5 record since the break, but I look for that to come to a stop versus Scherzer in the capitol.

Pittsburgh Pirates over Colorado Rockies – Wednesday

Another ace, I’m hitching my wagon to is Chris Archer. With his debut in the rear view, Archer looks to settle in as the ace of the staff in the steel city.

The Pirates look like a good MLB Betting pick for this week.

Chris Archer will face the Rockies at home, a team that aside from Nolan Arenado, is frankly, not very good. Look for a dominating performance from him this Wednesday.

Milwaukee Brewers over San Diego Padres – Wednesday

I also like the Brewers this week against the Padres. The Brewers seem to do relatively well against lefties, batting a combined .237 average against them, and the Padres, aside from their .500 stint against the Cubs, have been reeling as of late. I’ll take left-hander, Robbie Erlin for the L as the Brew-Crew attempts to make a push for the division. I also like the newcomer, Jonathan Schoop to lead the damage as he bats .294 against lefties from a home dugout this season.

Those are some of our favorite MLB Betting Picks of the Week.
