Thursday Night MLB Betting Preview for Miami at LA Dodgers

Where: Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles
Radio: WINZ 940 AM Miami / 570 AM Los Angeles

Pitching Matchup: Edinson Volquez (0-5, 4.41 ERA) (MIA) vs Hyun-Jin Ryu (1-5, 4.99 ERA) (LA)

Why should you bet on the Marlins?

The Marlins have dropped seven out of eight going into Wednesday’s game against Houston. Their offense has virtually disappeared in the last four games, as they have six total runs. However, their pitching has also been suspect, as they have permitted 55 runs in the last eight games. Their starter, Edinson Volquez, has terrific stuff — in his last start against Atlanta, he hit 96 on the gun with his fastball, and he has fanned 37 men in 34 innings this season. However, he is 0-5 — in part due to anemic run support. The good news for Miami is that the Dodgers are starting Hyun-Jin Ryu, who permitted 10 runs (five earned) in just four innings in his last start at Colorado. But can the Marlins get enough runs to keep up with the Dodgers?

Why should you put your money on the Dodgers?

The Dodgers are waiting for timely pitching and hitting to show up in the same game. While Ryu definitely is a question mark on the hill for them, several of their big hitters have done well against Volquez in their career. Yasiel Puig (.400), Justin Turner (.667, 1 HR, 4 RBI) and Chase Utley (.500, 1 RBI) all have found Volquez’s stuff hittable. With Volquez just two starts back from a DL stint, the Dodgers should find their way into the Miami bullpen fairly early.

Betting Pick and Final Score Prediction

Despite the presence of Ryu on the mound, I think the Dodgers have better bats and will enjoy returning home after a tough road trip. I predict a 7-5 win for Los Angeles.
