On Wednesday night, the Tampa Bay Rays will take on the Boston Red Sox in the second game of their three-game series. The Red Sox are 6-6, in second place in the American League East after dropping two straight to the Blue Jays, losing 4-3 on Monday. The Rays (5-7) are in fifth place in the American League East but come to Boston on a two-game winning streak, winning on Sunday in Chicago over the White Sox, 3-2. Why should you bet on Tampa Bay?

The Rays send their ace to the hill on Wednesday in Chris Archer. However, he still has not won a game in 2016, and his ERA is a little on the hefty side. He has struck out 23 batters against only eight walks, but he has not won a game since August 31 of last year, when he beat the Orioles. A lot of the Red Sox lineup has struggled against Archer over the last five years; while Hanley Ramirez has gone 2 for 3, such batters as Jackie Bradley Jr. (.083), Mookie Betts (.182), Brock Holt (.211) and Dustin Pedroia (.200) have had a hard time finding their way aboard, so Archer could use this game to turn around.

Why should you put your money on the Red Sox?

The Red Sox start Rick Porcello on the mound on Wednesday night. He has picked up a pair of wins, even though he permitted two long balls in each of his first two turns in the rotation, both against the Blue Jays. In 2015, he started against Tampa Bay four times and had a 2-1 record with a frigid 2.67 ERA, so he has done a good job in the past controlling the Rays’ bats. Tampa Bay has not done very well offensively so far this year, but they have been facing some primo pitchers. If Porcello shows his normally solid stuff, the Rays should go relatively quickly.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

I like Porcello to settle down the Rays and pave the way for a Boston win, as Archer still struggles to keep the ball down and gives up some big hits. I’m predicting a 6-2 Red Sox victory.
