St. Louis at Washington MLB Betting Prediction & Game Preview

Posted by Aaron . on April 10, 2017 in

The St. Louis Cardinals (2-4) visit the Washington Nationals (3-3) on Tuesday night. The Cardinals opened their season with a walkoff win over the Chicago Cubs but then dropped the last two games of that series and then dropped two of three against the Reds, getting outscored 20-4 in that series and taking an 8-0 shutout on Sunday. The Nationals dropped two of three in Philadelphia over the weekend, getting outscored 21-6 in the two losses and falling 4-3 in walkoff fashion on Sunday. Here’s a closer look at the MLB betting preview between these two teams.

St. Louis at Washington MLB Betting Prediction & Game Preview

When: Tuesday, April 11, 2017, 7:05pm ET
Where: Nationals Park, Washington, DC
Radio: Washington / St. Louis
Pitching Matchup: Lance Lynn (0-0, 3.38 ERA) (STL) vs Gio Gonzalez (0-0, 0.00 ERA) (WAS)

Why should you bet on the Cardinals?

Lance Lynn pitched well in his season debut, which marked a return from Tommy John surgery (and a 17-month layoff). He went 5 innings in that first start; he is a fastball-first pitcher who is working on incorporating a change to fool lefties who want to swing away. The only Nationals batters with an average higher than .250 against Lynn in their careers are Daniel Murphy and Chris Heisey. The Cardinals have struggled to find consistency at the plate — and on the mound — and will need to improve in both of those areas if they want to make the postseason.

Why should you put your money on the Nationals?

Gio Gonzalez threw six shutout innings in his first start of the season, despite the game slowing twice for a pair of rain delays. The Nationals actually had momentum going their way in Sunday’s loss to the Phillies, as Ryan Zimmerman tied the game in the top of the ninth with a three-run Jimmy Jack to erase a 3-0 deficit. However, Cesar Hernandez hit an opposite-field single to score Daniel Nava, who had reached base via a walk and gone to third on a Freddy Galvis single, and the Phillies took the win. If you like Washington, you see them getting to Lynn earlier and then getting better pitching.

Betting Pick and Final Score Prediction

The Nationals have more offensive weapons clicking right now than the Cardinals do. I predict a 5-3 Washington win.
