St. Louis at Baltimore MLB Betting Preview & Friday Game Info

Posted by Peter Boysen on June 15, 2017 in

The Baltimore Orioles (32-32) welcome the St. Louis Cardinals (30-34) to open their interleague weekend series on Friday night. The Orioles snapped a six-game skid on Wednesday with a 10-6 tattooing of the Chicago White Sox. The Cardinals had a nice four-game winning streak going before dropping two straight to the Milwaukee Brewers, including a 7-6 setback on Wednesday.

Why should you bet on the Cardinals?

Don’t let that 5-5 record next to Carlos Martinez’s name fool you — he has thrown not one but two complete-game shutouts this year (and given the inconsistent St. Louis offense this year, that’s about the only way a pitcher can guarantee himself a victory). He held the Philadelphia Phillies to just four hits and struck out eleven batters his last time out. Outfielder Jose Martinez has found his power stroke lately; on Tuesday he hit a pair of homers in the opener of a day-night doubleheader, leading the Cardinals to a 6-0 win. Also, there’s the fact that Kevin Gausman is starting for the Orioles. His last outing was a disaster in New York — 3 ⅓ IP, 8 H, 7 ER, inflating that ERA even further.

Are the Orioles a safe MLB betting pick against the Cardinals on Friday?

Why should you put your money on the Orioles?

Wellington Castillo was the hero on Wednesday night for the Orioles, belting a grand slam and driving in a career-best five runs. He and the rest of the Oriole lineup will have to make up the power gap that Baltimore faces with the loss of Chris Davis (oblique), who is on the 10-day disabled list as of Wednesday. When Carlos Martinez has struggled on the mound for St. Louis, control problems have been the issue, so if the Baltimore hitters can be patient (and if Martinez isn’t locked in like he was his last time out, then the Orioles have a chance.

Betting Pick and Final Score Prediction

Given the struggles that Gausman has had this season, and given the dominance that Martinez has shown, I see the Cardinals coming in and taking the opener of this series, 4-3.
