San Francisco at Colorado Saturday MLB Betting Prediction

Posted by Ted Merrick on June 16, 2017 in

The San Francisco Giants (26-42) continue their weekend series in Colorado against the Rockies (43-26) on Saturday afternoon. The Giants have dropped three in a row, including a 10- 9 loss in the series opener on Thursday night. The Rockies have now won two straight after a three-game losing streak. The question is, who will be the MLB betting favorite for Saturday afternoon? Let’s take a look at the preview.

San Francisco at Colorado Saturday MLB Betting Prediction

When: Saturday, June 17, 2017, 3:10pm ET
Where: Coors Field, Denver
Radio: San Francisco / Colorado
Live Stream:
Pitching Matchup: Matt Cain (3-5, 5.22 ERA) (SF) vs Kyle Freeland (7-4, 3.57 ERA) (COL)

Why should you bet on the Giants?

San Francisco rallied to tie Thursday’s game at 9 runs apiece after falling behind 9-1, so even though Raimel Tapia won it for Colorado with a walk-off single, the team has some offensive momentum going into the rest of the series. The problem for the Giants is that their starting pitcher for Saturday, Matt Cain, continues to give up a ton of hard hits. In his last start on Sunday, the Minnesota Twins hit two home runs off him, and five runs over all, in 4 ⅓ innings. The Giants were able to overcome that pitching performance with 13 runs of their own, but they can’t keep giving up big hitting performances and expect to win. Also, losing Buster pOsey (ankle) and Eduardo Nunez (hamstring) in the same inning on Thursday will cause some lineup issues through the weekend.

The Rockies head into Saturday's matchup as MLB betting favorite against the Cubs.

Why should you put your money on the Rockies?

Kyle Freeland had posted two solid starts in a row, pitching a combined 12 ⅓ innings and permitting just three earned runs, but his last start was a little less impressive as he permitted nine hits and four earned runs over 5 ⅔ innings as he took a loss against Pittsburgh. The Rockies have hit Cain hard — Alexi Amarista, Nolan Arenado, Charlie Blackmon, Ian Desmond, D.J. LeMahieu and Trevor Story have all hit home runs off him in their careers, and LeMahieu (.409 career average) and Mark Reynolds (.429, 1 RBI) have high career averages against him. In the hitter-friendly confines of Coors Field, this could be a big offensive day.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

I see the Rockies getting to Cain once again, and I also see Freeland rebounding from his struggles against Pittsburgh. I predict a 7-3 win for Colorado.
