On Thursday afternoon, the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Colorado Rockies will square off in the Mile High City in the finale of their four-game series. The Pirates have won the first two (6-1 on Monday and 9-4 on Tuesday). The Rockies are now 9-11 and are in fourth place in the National League West. The Pirates (12-9) are in second place in the National League Central, 3 ½ games behind the Cubs.  Find out the updated MLB betting lines here.

Why should you bet on Pittsburgh?

John Jaso (.600) and Matt Joyce (.600) have had a lot of success against the Rockies’ starting pitcher, Tyler Chatwood, over the last five years, and Chatwood was not good on Saturday, when he couldn’t get any of his four pitches over the plate for strikes. Even though he only gave up three runs in his four innings, he had a ton of base runners in his 95 pitches and permitted a two-run blast to A.J. Ellis that ended up giving the Dodgers enough offense to win the game. Andrew McCutcheon is off to a hot start with his bat for the Bucs (with three home runs in Tuesday’s romp), who could well complete a four-game sweep on Thursday.

Why should you put your money on the Rockies?

Pittsburgh sends Juan Nicasio to the mound, and pitching in the high altitude has not always been kind to him. A former Rockie, Nicasio has a career record of 13-9 and a 5.23 ERA in 48 appearances at the stadium. Nick Hundley (.308, 1 HR, 1 RBI) has hit decently in 13 at-bats against Nicasio. If Nicasio does not struggle with command, though, this could be a long day for the Rockies, who have struggled to put up much offense at all so far this season.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

I like the Pirates to tee off a bit on Chatwood and role to a 6-3 victory.
