Why should you bet on the the Mets?

It looks like Jeurys Familia has found his confidence as a closer once again. In the 2015 World Series, he went to the mound three times with a chance to save a victory for the Mets, but he blew all three of those chances. On Tuesday, he threw a perfect ninth inning to salt away the victory. Pay attention to the game notes on this one, as projected starter Jacob deGrom may have to leave the team as his wife is expecting a baby in Florida, so Steven Matz or Bartolo Colon could take the start instead. Either way, the Mets’ starter will be an upgrade on Jerad Eickhoff.

Why should you put your money on Philadelphia?

The calendar has turned to 2016, but the Phillies’ bullpen is already showing signs of the same meltdowns that led to so many bad endings last year. Scott Schebler came to the plate 0-for-3 with the bases loaded in the ninth inning on Wednesday night, having struck out three times, but he pounded a double off closer Dalier Hinojosa, sending the ball to left center and bringing the game to a quick ending. The Phillies’ offense is not good enough to outscore teams left and right, so the pitching will need to improve, particularly the bullpen. If they can get a good game out of Eickhoff, they have a chance against the Mets.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

I expect the Mets to open their home campaign with a trouncing of the visiting Phillies. I’m predicting a 6-2 win for New York.
