Oakland vs Houston MLB Betting Predictions

The Oakland Athletics play against the Houston Astros on Saturday afternoon in the middle game of their three-game weekend set. The A’s (25-29) are in third place in the American League West, just ½ game up on the 25-30 Astros (and the 24-29 Angels). Oakland arrives after sweeping the Minnesota Twins in their midweek series, while the Astros have won five of six, seeing their streak end on Thursday when Zack Greinke led the Diamondbacks to a 3-0 shutout of Houston, striking out 11 batters. Find the latest MLB betting odds here.

Oakland Athletics vs Houston Astros MLB Betting Predictions

When: Saturday, June 4, 2016, 4:10pm Eastern time
Where: Minute Maid Park, Houston
TV: CSNCA, ROOT Sports Southwest
Radio: KBME 790 AM Houston
Live Stream: MLB.tv
Pitching Matchup: Rich Hill (8-3, 2.25 ERA) (OAK) vs Collin McHugh (5-4, 4.82 ERA) (HOU)

Why should you bet on Oakland?

Rich Hill was named May’s Pitcher of the Month in the American League. He spun a 5.1 record with a 2.13 ERA, striking out 37 batters in 38 innings over six starts in the month. Nine of the Astros’ regulars have faced Hill in their career — but only two (Jose Altuve and Jason Castro) have ever had base hits off his pitching. The A’s are also seeing some offense, at long last. They have double-digit hits in their last two games, and a budding offense is what has fed their five-game winning streak.

Why should you put your money on the Astros?

Collin McHugh had a subpar April, but his May has been pretty good. He hasn’t matched Hill’s numbers in the month, but he did go 31 with a 3.83 ERA in six starts, including three quality outings. Marcus Semien (.556) and Billy Butler (.300, 1 HR) have had some success against him, but overall he has managed the Oakland hitters thus far in his career. George Springer has been magnificent since he moved into the leadoff spot ten games ago, hitting .450 and slamming five home runs (while driving in 10).

Expert Pick and Final Prediction

I like Hill to come in and manage the Houston offense much like he has been doing since the calendar turned to May. I’m predicting a 4-1 Oakland win.
