The Oakland A’s (4-4) wrap up their midweek series in Kansas City against the Royals (2-5) on Thursday night. The A’s won the series opener, 2-0, on Tuesday night, giving the Royals their second loss in a row. Kansas City took two of three from Houston over the weekend, as the A’s dropped two of three in Texas. Let’s take a closer look at the MLB betting preview for this matchup.

Oakland at Kansas City MLB Betting Prediction & Game Info

When: Thursday, April 13, 8:15pm ET
Where: Kauffman Stadium, Kansas City
Stream: MLB.tv
RadioOakland / Kansas City
Pitching Matchup: Jesse Hahn (0-0, 3.00 ERA) (OAK) vs Jason Vargas (1-0, 1.50 ERA) (KC)

Why should you bet on the A’s?

Hahn came on for the A’s in relief of Raul Alcantara, a game that Texas would won 10-5 but primarily because of Alcantara’s awful start. He hurled six strong innings out of the bullpen, permitting just two runs on seven hits and fanning three. He did start nine games for Oakland in 2016 and has now taken Alcantara’s spot. While the A’s do not have one of the stronger offenses in the American League, they do have pitching that is fairly solid. Hahn has the stuff to keep a struggling Kansas City offense off the bases.

Why should you put your money on the Royals?

Vargas was dazzling in his season debut last week, as he fanned six Astros in six innings, permitting just a single run. Only two Athletics (Rajai Davis and Trevor Plouffe) have ever homered off Vargas, as the lefty has worked his way through the Oakland lineup multiple times in the past. The A’s don’t have a particularly dynamic offense either, so if Vargas can show that same stuff he showed the Astros, the Royals should close out this three-game set with a win.

Betting Pick and Final Score Prediction

The Royals have definitely struggled out of the gate this year, but I see Vargas out dueling Hahn to take the series finale by a 4-2 score.
