NY Rangers at Ottawa NHL Playoffs Betting Odds Game 5

You might have been thinking that the New York Rangers were heading for another disappointing playoff exit. After all, they overcame a tough Montreal Canadiens team in the first round, only to head to Ottawa and drop the first two games of their Eastern Conference semifinal series with the Senators. Now, though, after eight goals in two games, the Rangers have tied the series at two games a piece with a Thursday night 4-1 win that has fans of the Blueshirts feeling much more optimistic about their team’s chances. So, will they get the lead in Canada this Saturday? Let’s see what the NHL odds have to say about that.

NY Rangers at Ottawa NHL Playoffs Betting Odds Game 5

When: Saturday, May 6, 2017, 3:00pm ET
Where: Canadian Tire Center, Ottawa
TV: NBC Sports
Radio: New York / Ottawa
Stream Option: NHL.tv
NHL Odds: Rangers at -1½

Why should you bet on the Rangers?

The Senators are going all-in on stopping Chris Kreider and Rick Nash from scoring for the Rangers, but that’s leaving a lot of room for Oscar Lindberg (two goals in Game 4) and Tanner Glass (a pair of assists in Game 4) to get points. The buzzing Rangers’ offense kept the puck away from the Senators, who only mustered 23 shots in the game (and Henrik Lundqvist stopped 22). While Ottawa’s best defenseman, Erik Karlsson, who had to sit out the third period with a lower-body injury, is expected to return for Game 5, the foot problems that have plagued since late in the regular season have hampered his effectiveness and will continue to open up room for the New York offense.

Why should you put your money on the Senators?

Well, Ottawa did win the first two games in their own building. Their attempts to stop Nash and Kreider frustrated the Rangers, and then their Game 2 overtime win showed how they could blast through that Ranger defense. It looks like New York has buckled things down and has things in hand, but changing arenas can make a big difference. Expect Craig Anderson (17 saves on 20 shots and got pulled after the 2nd period for Mike Condon) to play a better game on his home ice. But will it be enough to take the win?

Betting Pick and Final Score Prediction

The Ottawa defense is better than they showed in Games 3 and 4. However, I don’t see them slowing down the Rangers a third time. I predict a 3-1 New York win.
