NY Mets at Pittsburgh MLB Betting Prediction for Saturday Night

Posted by Peter Boysen on May 26, 2017 in

The New York Mets (19-26) play the middle game of their weekend series in Pittsburgh against the Pirates (22-26) on Saturday night. The Pirates have won two in a row and four of six, including a 9-4 win in Atlanta on Thursday. The Mets have dropped two in a row, both one-run defeats at the hands of the lowly San Diego Padres. Both teams are struggling to remain competitive in their divisional races so far this season. With midseason on the horizon, both teams are looking to get back on track to keep their post season dreams alive.

NY Mets at Pittsburgh MLB Betting Prediction for Saturday Night

When: Saturday, May 27, 2017, 7:15pm ET
Where: PNC Park, Pittsburgh
TV: FOX
Radio: New York / Pittsburgh
Live Stream: MLB.tv
MLB Odds: TBA
Pitching Matchup: Zack Wheeler (3-2, 3.74 ERA) (NY) vs Gerrit Cole (2-5, 3.36 ERA) (PIT)

Why should you bet on the Mets?

Zack Wheeler has been one of the few bright spots in the Mets’ rotation this season. Only one of the Pirates (John Jaso) has ever faced Wheeler, so he should have an edge his first time or two through the batting order. The Mets got shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera back from the disabled list, but New York still has issues in their bullpen as well, as they gave up rallies on both Wednesday and Thursday to a Padre offense that has been anything but dynamic this season.

Why should you put your money on the Pirates?

That 2-5 record that Gerrit Cole has posted? It is primarily the result of poor run support, as that ERA (3.36) is competitive. He did have a poor start his last time out against Atlanta, permitting five runs on 10 hits in 4 ⅔ innings. In each of his last seven starts, he had lasted at least six innings and permitted no more than two earned runs. None of the Met regulars have ever taken Cole deep — and the Pirates should be able to give Cole some run support this time, as they have scored 27 runs in their last three games.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

The Pirates are hitting well right now, and they have one of their top starters on the mound. I see them winning, 5-2.
