NY Mets at Miami MLB Betting Pick, Prediction & Preview

Written by on April 12, 2017

The New York Mets (5-3) open a four-game set in Miami against the Marlins (4-3) on Thursday night. The Mets currently have a three-game winning streak going, including a 14-4 whipping of the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday night. The Marlins knocked off Atlanta at home on Tuesday, 8-4. The two teams met over the weekend up in Queens, with the Fish taking two of three. Who will have the upper edge in this MLB betting preview?

NY Mets at Miami MLB Betting Pick, Prediction & Preview

When: Thursday, April 13, 7:10pm ET Where: Marlins Park, Miami TV: FSFL, SNY Stream: MLB.tv Radio: New York / Miami MLB Odds: TBA Pitching Matchup: Robert Gsellman (0-1, 4.50 ERA) (NY) vs Wei-Yin Chen (1-0, 1.50 ERA) (MIA)

Why should you bet on the Mets?

Gsellman didn’t pitch badly against the Marlins in their first encounter over the weekend. While all three runs he permitted were earned, his defense was less than spectacular behind him. No member of the Marlins has faced him in more than three at-bats, which is generally an advantage for the pitcher. The Mets are the best power-hitting team in baseball right now — they clubbed seven home runs in that win over Philadelphia and 14 extra-base hits overall. If they can continue that sort of barrage against Chen, they should win easily.

Why should you put your money on the Marlins?

I have a 12-run rule when it comes to predicting how teams will do in their next game. The Mets scored more than 12 runs against the Phillies (including three titanic home runs from Yoenis Cespedes), totaling 14 runs on the night. I tend to look at those teams as losers the next night, simply because the law of averages will kick in and they won’t get that many hits. Also, the Marlins start Wei-Yin Chen, who baffled the Mets up in New York, both on the mound and collecting his first hit as a major leaguer. Marcell Ozuna cleaned up for the Marlins in Atlanta on Tuesday, collecting a career best 6 RBI. He has hit safely in six of his team’s seven games, and is a big reason for their solid start.

Betting Pick and Final Score Prediction

I like the Mets to keep raking this year, but I see Chen cooling them off. I predict a 4-2 win for the Marlins to open this four-game set.
