NY Mets at Atlanta MLB Match Preview & Expert Betting Pick

Posted by Peter Boysen on June 8, 2017 in

The New York Mets (25-32) head to Atlanta to take on the Braves (25-32) starting on Friday night. The Mets snapped a two-game losing streak on Wednesday night, scoring a run in the ninth to beat the Texas Rangers, 4-3. The Braves also ended a two-game slide on Wednesday night, annihilating the Philadelphia Phillies, 14-1. The Braves finish their series with Philadelphia on Thursday before welcoming the Mets on Friday.

Where: SunTrust Park, Atlanta
TV: FSSO, SNY
Radio: New York / Atlanta
Live Stream: MLB.tv
MLB Odds: TBA
Pitching Matchup: Matt Harvey (4-3, 5.43 ERA) (NY) vs Julio Teheran (5-4, 5.40 ERA) (ATL)

Why should you bet on the Mets?

Jay Bruce got two of the three hits that the Mets managed off Texas starter Yu Darvish on Wednesday night. Fortunately for the Mets, they were both home runs, and they put three runs on the board. The Rangers tied the game in the eighth, but then the Mets scored on a throwing error in the ninth and held on for the win. That type of gritty victory can build momentum going into the next series and should give the Mets some energy going into Atlanta. Matt Harvey starts for the Mets, and if he can find some control, he should have some luck against an Atlanta offense that put up 14 runs on Wednesday and may be subject to that law of averages pulling them back down to earth.

Why should you put your money on the Braves?

Julio Teheran has picked up wins in each of his last two starts, pitching a combined 11 ⅓ innings. He got lots of offense his last time out, as he permitted 11 hits and seven earned runs against the Reds but won anyway. Against the Angels, though, in his start before that, he permitted just six hits and three earned runs in 6 ⅓ innings and picked up another victory. If he can manage control against a Mets team that hasn’t hit all that well lately, the Braves should be able to pick up a win at home.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

The Mets do have some clutch hitters, but I also see Teheran outpitching Harvey in this one, and the Braves eking out a 4-3 win.
