Nationals vs Astros 2019 World Series Game 2 Odds & Expert Prediction

The Houston Astros were always supposed to be in this position. Prior to the 2019 season, most baseball experts predicted that this star-studded team would represent the American League in the 2019 Fall Classic. When talking about the National League representative, the Washington Nationals, the same can’t be said. Nationals vs Astros Game 2 on Wednesday is going to be a good one.

Nationals vs Astros 2019 World Series Game 2 Odds & Expert Prediction

Washington on Fire

After starting the season 19-31, the Nationals were left for dead. Dave Martinez was on the hot seat, and there was talk of dealing Max Scherzer and Stephen Strasburg. They played great baseball over the last 110 games and earned the top Wild Card spot in the National League. After nearly falling to the Brewers in the Wild Card game, the Nationals went on to stun the Dodgers, and then dominate the St. Louis Cardinals. And now, here they are in the World Series.

If it wasn’t enough that we had a Max Scherzer vs. Gerrit Cole matchup in Game 1 of the World Series, we now will get a Stephen Strasburg vs. Justin Verlander in Game 2. A 5-4 victory by the underdog Washington Nationals will make Game 2 that much more important. After the Nationals beat Gerrit Cole, who hadn’t lost a game since May 22nd, and took Game 1 of the World Series, we’ll now move on to Game 2 on Wednesday night.

Excellent Pitching in Nationals vs Astros

Strasburg and Verlander have gone down similar career paths. The 31 year old Strasburg led the National League in victories this season with 18. In his 209 innings pitched, he struck out 251 batters. The first pick in the 2009 draft has had quite the postseason. In his four postseason appearances, he’s pitched 19 innings, striking out 29, with a 1.64 ERA.

In his 41 career postseason innings, Strasburg has been dominant. With a 1.10 ERA, and a .90 WHIP, Strasburg has nearly been untouchable.  Verlander, who is now 36, was the second pick of the 2004 draft. While Strasburg has pitched well in the postseason, Verlander has had his issues. He’s 0-4 in five career World Series starts. Although he has seen some success, that elusive World Series win is what he’ll be looking for on Wednesday night.  Verlander will need to contain the hot-hitting Juan Soto. Soto went 3-4 with a home run and 3 RBI to help the Nationals take a 1-0 in the best-of-seven series.

The bottom portion of the order scored three runs to help the Nats. If they want to take Game 2, they’ll need more help for Soto. Washington will need a huge effort from Strasburg on Wednesday. The Nationals had to not only use their top three bullpen arms, but they also needed an appearance from potential Game 3 starter, Patrick Corbin, to earn the Game 1 victory.

If the Astros are to even the series, they’re going to have to do a better job of hitting with runners on base. Houston stranded too many runners in crucial points of the game. They can’t afford to keep leaving runners in scoring position. They may not have too many chances against Strasburg, so they’ll need to take advantage of every chance they get.

Nationals vs Astors Game 2 is Huge for Houston

With the heavily-favored Astros now down 1-0, the momentum has swung to Washington. The Astros can’t afford to go to Washington down 2-0, so they’ll need to pull out all of the stops on Wednesday. Game 2 of the 2019 World Series should provide us with great pitching and some clutch hitting. This should be a fun one!
