The Pittsburgh Pirates and the Los Angeles Angels play the middle game of their weekend interleague set on Saturday afternoon. The Pirates (29-24) are in second place in the National League Central but have lost five of six, including three in a row to the Miami Marlins, losing 3-2 on Wednesday and 4-3 on Thursday. The Angels (24-29) are in fourth place in the American League West, falling on Wednesday to the Tigers, 3-0. Find the updated MLB betting run lines here.

Why should you bet on Los Angeles?

Mike Trout has shaken off that frigid April and appears to be back to his old self again. In May, he hit .340 and drove in 27 runs while scoring 26 times. Nick Tropeano is showing some signs of dominance on the mound; in two of last three starts for the Halos, he has lasted at least 6 innings. None of the Pirate starters have ever faced Tropeano, which is generally an advantage for the pitcher. C.J. Cron has also been hitting well for the Angels, as he pounded two home runs in the team’s 11-9 win on Tuesday night.

Why should you put your money on the Pirates?

On Monday, Pirates starter Jeff Locke threw a 105-pitch three-hit shutout against the Miami Marlins, as the Bucs prevailed, 10-0. That would be the only game that Pittsburgh would take from Miami, but at home, Locke has been terrific, going 2-1 with a 3.96 ERA in four starts at PNC Park. Shane Robinson (0 for 8) and Yunel Escobar (0-3) are hitless for the Angels lifetime against Locke, and they are the only Angels who have ever faced him. The Pirates are ripe for some breaks after dropping some tough games in Texas last weekend and in Miami during the week.

Expert Pick and Final Prediction

I like the Angels to come into town and continue the Pirates’ misery a bit, but it won’t be on Saturday. I like Locke to throw yet another strong game, and I predict that Pittsburgh will win, 5-2.
