LA Dodgers at St. Louis MLB Betting Prediction & Analysis

Posted by Ted Merrick on May 30, 2017 in

The Los Angeles Dodgers (32-20) continue their midweek series in St. Louis against the Cardinals (24-24) on Wednesday night. The Dodgers have won five in a row and seven of eight, including a three-game sweep of the Chicago Cubs and a win in the opener against St. Louis on Monday night, 5-1. The Cardinals have dropped two in a row and four of five and need to reverse this trend to stay competitive in the National League Central. So, can the Cardinals get back on track or will the Dodgers stop them in their tracks? Let’s take a look at the MLB betting preview for this game.

LA Dodgers at St. Louis MLB Betting Prediction & Analysis

TV: SNLA, FSMW, ESPN
Radio: Los Angeles / St. Louis

MLB Odds: TBA
Pitching Matchup: Hyun-Jin Ryu (2-5, 4.28 ERA) (LA) vs Carlos Martinez (3-4, 3.32 ERA) (STL)

Why should you bet on the Dodgers?

Hyun-Jin Ryu returns from the bullpen to make the start on Wednesday night against the Cardinals. St. Louis actually saw him last week, when he appeared in relief on Thursday night, throwing the last four innings of the game to pick up an unconventional save. The problem with Ryu is durability — he has not made it six full innings in a start since April 24. However, if Ryu falters, the Dodgers also have their power game going, as Logan Forsythe, Cody Bellinger and Chase Utley all hit solo shots in the Dodgers’ win on Monday night.

Why should you put your money on the Cardinals?

Carlos Martinez has pitched extremely well in his last two starts. His last time out, he threw nine shutout innings against the Dodgers but took a no-decision as the offense did not help him. In his prior start, he threw 7 ⅓ innings, permitting three runs in a loss to Colorado. During those 16 ⅓ combined innings, he has fanned 16 but walked just three. With the return of outfielder Jose Martinez from the disabled list, they get that weak link known as Randal Grichuk out of their lineup, sending him back down to Class A ball. If Martinez can lock down the Dodgers again, and the Cardinal bats wake up, St. Louis should be able to take a win.

Betting Pick and Final Score Prediction

The Dodgers have an impressive run going, but I see Martinez outpitching Ryu and the Dodger bullpen, and I predict a 5-3 Cardinal win.
