The Los Angeles Angels (24-23) play the third game of their midweek series against Tampa Bay (23-24) on Wednesday night. The Halos now have won two straight after taking the series opener, 3-2, while the Rays have now dropped two straight after winning four in a row and five of six. Both teams have had a rough season start and are looking to get back on track before the midseason. Let’s take a closer look at the latest preview for Wednesday’s game.

Why should you bet on the Angels?

Ricky Nolasco has had decent stuff as of late. In his last start on Friday, he limited the Mets to just a pair of runs (with just one earned) in six innings, but a lack of run support doomed him to the loss. Angels batters have teed off on Erasmo Ramirez in the past; Cameron Maybin (.571, 4 RBI), Ben Revere (.667), Andrelton Simmons (.333, 2 RBI) and Mike Trout (.353, 1 HR, 3 RBI) have all found pitches from Nolasco that they could drive.

Why should you put your money on the Rays?

Erasmo Ramirez has pitched well for the Rays this year — when he doesn’t get the win, it’s been a lack of run support or a bullpen meltdown that caused the problem. In his last start, he went 5 ⅓ innings, permitting just a pair of runs in a game against the Yankees that turned into a no-decision. As far as the Tampa Bay bats go, Evan Longoria and Rickie Weeks Jr. have both taken Nolasco deep in their careers, and Nolasco has a poor record in nine career starts against Tampa Bay, going 3-6 and posting a 6.57 ERA. So if the Rays can get their bats going, they have a chance to roll over the Halos.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

Given the struggles that Nolasco has had against Tampa Bay, I see them getting to him fairly early. I also see Ramirez continuing his strong pitching trend of the season so far. I predict a final score of Tampa Bay 5, Los Angeles 3.
