On Wednesday night, the Houston Astros visit the Seattle Mariners in an American League West matchup. The Astros (6-14) are in fifth place in the American League West and have dropped six of seven, including a 3-2 loss to the Mariners on Monday night. The Mariners (10-9) are in first place in the division, having moved past the Oakland A’s and the Texas Rangers with that win on Monday. The teams meet Tuesday before continuing the series in Wednesday’s matchup. Find out the latest MLB betting lines here.

Why should you bet on Houston?

Although Hisashi Iwakuma is 0-2, he has a 3.81 ERA which tells us that run support has been an issue. Even so, the Astros have had luck as a group against him. Marwin Gonzalez (.571, 1 HR, 1 RBI) and Jose Altuve (.370, 5 RBI, 27 AB) have had the most success. The Astros have been awful on offense up to this point in the season, although the grand slam that Colby Rasmus hit in the fifth inning of the Astros’ 8-3 win over Boston on Saturday could be a sign that things are heating up.

Why should you put your money on the Mariners?

Robinson Cano and Nelson Cruz key a Mariner offense that is, at least for now, the best in the division. They get to tee off against the pitching of Collin McHugh in this matchup, and he has been dreadful so far. He has only managed to pitch 16 innings in his four starts, and his mammoth ERA is the result of leaving fastballs and breaking balls up in the zone, where hitters have been mashing them all over the yard. In his last two starts (both losses) he has surrendered 10 hits apiece. Nelson Cruz (.364, 2 HR, 3 RBI in 11 AB) enjoys seeing McHugh on the mound, but perhaps not so much as Steve Clevenger (.667).

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

The Mariners are on a roll right now, and I like them to continue this streak, particularly with McHugh on the mound for the Astros. I’m predicting a 7-4 win for Seattle.
