Friday MLB Expert Betting Preview on LA Angels at Houston

Posted by Aaron . on June 8, 2017 in

The Los Angeles Angels (30-32) open a weekend series in Houston against the red-hot Astros (42-18) on Friday night. The Astros have an uncharacteristic two-game slide going right now, including a 7-5 loss in Kansas City on Wednesday night. The Angels have dropped two of three, falling in Detroit, 4-0, on Wednesday night. The Astros are soaring this season and as we get closer to the midseason, many teams can recuperate their game and the Angels are a bit far behind. Let’s see which team is favored in the MLB lines to win Game 1.

Friday MLB Expert Betting Preview on LA Angels at Houston

When: Friday, June 9, 2017, 8:10pm ET
Where: Minute Maid Park, Houston
Radio: Los Angeles / Houston
Live Stream:
Pitching Matchup: Matt Shoemaker (5-3, 4.12 ERA) (LA) vs Brad Peacock (3-0, 2.30 ERA) (HOU)

Why should you bet on the Angels?

Angels pitcher Matt Shoemaker has already taken two of his three losses this year at the hands of the Astros. However, Houston hitters only had a .200 average against him, and he fanned 38 Astros while walking just 11. In his last five starts, he has had four wins, so he could be rounding into more dominant form. Despite the loss of Mike Trout to thumb surgery, the Angels have still had about the same production on offense as a team in the last week and a half. If they can get to Peacock, they have a chance to take a win down in the Lone Star State.

Why should you put your money on the Astros?

Brad Peacock makes his fourth start for Houston this season after emerging from the bullpen to make his first start on May 22. In his three starts so far, he has thrown a combined 15 innings, permitting just six earned runs. His last time out, against Texas, he permitted just a pair of earned runs in six innings as the Astros breezed to a 7-2 victory. That was his longest start of the season, a sign that he is stretching out into the starter that Houston needs in that rotation slot. Before this two-game slide, Houston had won 11 in a row, and their bats have been fine in the losses (12 runs combined). So with some solid pitching, the Astros should win this.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

The unexpected surprise that Brad Peacock brings to the rotation gives Houston yet another solid pitching option. I see him outpitching Shoemaker and leading Houston to a 6-3 win.
